GSP announces latest appointments to newly established regional team

Gateley Smithers Purslow (GSP), the multi-disciplinary surveying, engineering and architecture practice arm of legal and professional services group, Gateley, has announced an expansion of its Newcastle engineering team with two new appointments.

The Newcastle team is headed up by regional manager Mark Campbell MEng CEng MICE, a highly experienced structural engineer who is chartered and a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE) and has been with GSP for two years.  The team specialises in structural engineering design and structural defect diagnosis and provides its services to a range of private, public and commercial clients in addition to servicing the property insurance claims market GSP is widely renowned for.

Newcastle born, bred and educated Mark says: “Much of our insurance work involves site visits and surveys and dealing with structural emergencies such as storm damage, something we’ve experienced a lot of in the last few years here in the North East.”

“The quality of our work and client support has massively boosted our reputation, which I am pleased to say has led to a significant increase in demand for our services across all sectors and is the reason we have needed to extend our team with these two new appointments and are looking to expand further in 2023.”

The most recent addition to the team is Samuel (Sam) Read, a graduate structural engineer who also studied at Newcastle University, gaining an MEng in civil and structural engineering.

With a strong career ambition to become chartered, Sam says of his role: “As a graduate structural engineer my job is very varied, but I mainly diagnose structural defects and offer advice and guidance to clients, as well as being involved in residential and commercial structural design work, such as alterations and extensions.”

“I particularly enjoy the fact that no two days are the same and like the variety of activity and the friendly and supportive working culture here at GSP, which reaches across all of our offices and teams nationally.”

Jake McGee has been with GSP for 14 months and is also a graduate of Newcastle University with an MEng degree in civil and structural engineering.  He says: “Our sphere of activity is one that is always changing and constantly challenging, which makes my role an exciting and rewarding one.”

Mark adds: “It is great having Sam and Jake on board, both bring youthful enthusiasm to their roles whilst delivering the best possible service.  At the same time, they are gaining experience and building their careers in structural engineering with us and making great strides to becoming chartered engineers.”

“We have ambitious growth plans, both regionally and nationally, and I am confident they will both have a significant contribution to make in moving our business forward.”

Gateley Smithers Purslow’s Newcastle office is an established building at Boldon, just outside Newcastle, where they offer service and support to the wider Northern region and into Scotland.
