Smithers Purslow’s Inaugural Charity Golf Day
– In aid of the Matt Hampson Foundation –
On the morning of Thursday 15 June 2017, levels of excitement had reached boiling point, nerves were frazzled and the tension was clearly mounting as Smithers Purslow prepared to host their first-ever ‘Charity Golf Day’ at the Leicestershire Golf Club, Evington.
It was time for all those would-be-golfers to fetch their clubs out of the garage and dust them off for their favourite personal test of stamina and skill whilst also giving them the wonderful opportunity of helping us raise as much as possible for the ‘The Matt Hampson Foundation’. (We are proud to say that the day raised a whopping £2,000.00!)

“Our aim is to provide advice, support, relief and/or treatment for anyone suffering serious injury or disability which has arisen from any cause, but in particular from participation in or training for any sport, sporting activity or other form of physical education or recreation. We mainly assist people who have received such injuries in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland but that does not preclude us from helping those in other parts of the world who need urgent assistance. If you would like to know more about the Foundation, its aims or you would like to know more about Matt’s educational visits, contact email@example.com for further details”.
The day started off with morning tea/coffee and bacon rolls for all of our guests on arrival, followed by 18 holes of golf (played in groups of 4 balls). The day was immediately brought to life with the arrival of ‘Hoggy’ (Ex-England Cricketer Matthew Hoggard) who literally dazzled us with his amazing @RoyalAwesome golf gear and provided a superb atmosphere throughout the day.
The Leicestershire Golf Club were outstanding in every way. The day ran like clockwork, they were very attentive and even provided an official ‘Starter’ for the day. The golf day finished off in the clubhouse with an exquisite 3 course meal and prize-giving, at which Hoggy was kind enough to hand out the prizes. Hoggy also ended up getting ‘2nd overall team prize’ along with Callum Bergin, Ken Porter & Ian Griffiths).
On leaving everyone was given a Smithers Purslow ‘goodie bag’ filled with various promotional gifts to remember the day by, amongst which were our very popular blue & white stress balls produced for us by local company ‘Everything Branded’ :
‘Everything Branded’ were also kind enough to sponsor one of the golf holes for the day along with Hawkes Projects Ltd, Hill Grafford Financial Services, SD Design, Soar Valley Press, Oakham School, Stamford School, Baird Electrical & Lands End Oakham, all in aid of the Matt Hampson Trust. Here are some highlights of the day:
Complimentary proof photos from the day have very generously been provided by local professional photographer, Nico Morgan, who provided his services free of charge for the day in support of the Matt Hampson Trust:
Through the above link you will see that prints are available for a very reasonable £7 each, should you wish to have a memento of the day.
We are delighted to say that our inaugural golf day proved to be an enormous success and we have had extremely positive feedback & thanks from all those who attended. Next year’s event is already being planned…..so watch this space!
